Bic: Express Yourself entry

Did up this sketch for the Bic: Express Yourself competition, where you had to create a drawing from a predetermined squiggle. I actually made a point to use only Bic products for this (4 colour pen, Kids colour pencils, and a 4x4 Grip Permanent marker). It certainly created some different challenges to drawing solely onto the computer with the wacom tablet.

I must say though I am a big fan of sketching with ballpoint pen.

Cuddles and Blacky

Have got a bit of correspondence lately from some kids who have discovered that I did the designs for the Pawphans plush. Its always great to get letters, photos and illustrations from the kids who collect and play with the product. I reckon it has to be the primary motivating factor to what we do in the toy industry.

I always try to respond to their letters and draw them up a sketch with their own characters in.

Here's one I did just recently for a girl named Amy who sent me her sketches of her Pawphans "Cuddles" and Blacky".

Sketch in a cafe

Have not had any time of late for any personal drawings but did manage to squeeze out this scribble the other day while I was sitting down at a cafe for coffee.

Crazy Busy...

A couple of months ago when I made the move to cut back my Toy Industry work to part time so that I could focus on growing my freelance business, I kinda thought it'd be a slow transition that involved me twiddling my thumbs a bit till the work came.

Boy was I mistaken. Its been crazy busy, but also exciting. Its exposed me to work involved in both the Animation and Video Game industries and provided me with whole new experiences. Its nice to be learning new skills.

The downside tho, is that I've had no time for anypersonal projects but hey, when the work's there you've gotta take it! This little rat sketch is the first bit of sketching I managed for myself in a little while. Scribbled it up last nite - obviously still seeing the carry over of the Tim Burton influence.

Tim Burton Exhibition

Went and saw the Tim Burton exhibition at ACMI on the weekend.
Fantastic! Absolutely loved it! I never realised he had such an extensive body of artwork. Was really inspiring. I loved seeing how he has carried his personal style through his art over the years and managed to evolve it.
I reckon any Tim Burton fan gets along to see this.
The exhibition has inspired me to do this little character concept with some very distinct Tim Burton influences.
