I guess the advantage of working on multiple paintings at one time is that you get the satisfaction of finishing two in one day!

Its interesting how much of a different process that the canvas painting is to digital. Its a lot slower and you have to wait for stages to dry before you can approach the next, there's no undo function, no editable layers and you can't just pick up objects and reposition them on the canvas. Makes me realise how spoilt we are in this digital age.

On the flip side, you can paint in the sunshine and not be huddled over a computer monitor :)

Great First Week in the Gallery

My Paintings have had a great first week in Artboy Gallery.

Artboy were fantastic enough to feature my art in their front window

this week and have already sold three of the five pieces.

Couldn't have hoped for a more awesome result.

Bioshock

I'm in the process of playing through Bioshock 2 again. Man, i love the Bioshock games.

Great narrative, design and general creative vision.

I've now played through both games twice (which is a big call for me). Its inspired me to put together this piece of fan art...

How to Train your Dragon : inspiration

Couple of weeks ago I went to see How to Train Your Dragon at the cinemas and absolutely loved it. I thought the character and creature design was fantastic. Ever since then I've been looking for a bit of spare time to work on my own little dragon sketch.

Got a bit of a chance on the weekend so here's where I'm at so far.

Got to spend a bit more time on Rover tonite. been alternating at nite between doing this and teaching myself After Effects. Figure it'll add another string to my bow.

Quick scribble

Wanted to draw something but didn't know what so i sorta made this up as i go. I find it kind of liberating to work in this sort of quick loose style.
Have included a few of the stages.

Just went and saw Pixar's UP

I just went and saw Pixar's UP, and wow!
I thought after Wall-E it would be a hard follow up so i went in prepped for disappointment.
How i could have ever doubted the brilliance of Pixar is beyond me. I'm hesitant to make comparison's to Wall-E as i am still riding on the euphoria of UP, but i must say - WOW!
Pixar have shown yet again that they are truly in a league of their own when it comes to character and storytelling.
And as a dog fan I was in heaven. I think Dug may be the cutest animated dog character i have ever seen on film. Simply brilliant and utterly hilarious.
If you get the chance go and see this film immediately. I saw it in 3d which was fantastic but i'd have to say the story and characters are that good that without the 3d this is simply brilliant.
Needless to say i came home inspired and scribbled up this Dug-inspired sketch. I did mine a little younger and thinner than the movie character.
Coloring a little darker too.

Something quick last nite (WIP)

Here's a quick 20minute progress sketch from last nite. Wanted to do a sort of giant robot wreaks havoc sort of sketch.

Orcs and Goblins

Sketches I did where I was going through a bit of a Lord of the Rings/Warhammer thing. Was also working on a product at work at the time called Battleground: Crossbows and Catalpults.
